About The Ruum Africa
The Ruum Africa (TRA) is dedicated to establishing creative intellectual property infrastructure across Africa by integrating media, technology, and community efforts. Their flagship platform, 54Ruum, has showcased over 250 photographers and visual storytellers spanning 34 African nations. Through their editorial initiatives, TRA aims to document and disseminate narratives highlighting African creativity while supporting artists in sharing their work globally.
Role Overview
The Editorial Writer will play a crucial role in shaping and refining published content across TRA's platforms, ensuring each creator's unique voice remains genuine and intact.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit interviews and editorial pieces for publication, preserving the authentic voice of each artist.
- Create and refine biographies, headlines, pull quotes, captions, and other complementary editorial materials.
- Prepare and format stories for web and social media dissemination.
- Ensure all content adheres to TRA’s editorial standards prior to publication.
- Collaborate closely with the Editorial Department to maintain uniformity and continually enhance editorial quality.
Candidate Profile
- Strong writing and editing capabilities.
- Excellent written communication paired with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to write clearly in natural English.
- Organised, dependable, and capable of meeting deadlines.
- Prior experience in editorial writing, journalism, publishing, or copy editing is advantageous but not mandatory.
Working Environment
- Collaboration is facilitated primarily through Slack, with project management conducted on ClickUp.
- Weekly team meetings occur every Monday via Google Meet to review progress and plan tasks.
- The organisation champions ownership, initiative, and constructive teamwork, trusting members to manage responsibilities independently.
