Role Summary
The Early Childhood Educator will design and lead age-appropriate learning experiences that nurture children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. This is a full-time, on-site position in Vernon, British Columbia.
The role involves preparing and running daily activities, supporting play-based discovery, and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and caring classroom. The educator will monitor and record children’s growth, maintain regular communication with families, and work closely with colleagues to ensure practices reflect the preschool’s philosophy and accreditation requirements.
Day-to-day work also includes supporting snack and meal routines, outdoor time, rest periods, and transitions, while demonstrating positive behavior and respectful interaction. The educator will also take part in team meetings, ongoing training, and continuous program improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver learning experiences suited to the developmental stage of children aged 30 months to 5 years.
- Set up and facilitate daily activities that encourage play-based and inquiry-led exploration.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
- Observe children’s development and document progress in a meaningful way.
- Share updates with families and communicate in a professional, consistent manner.
- Work collaboratively with coworkers to support the preschool’s educational approach and accreditation standards.
- Support children during snack and meal times, outdoor play, rest periods, and transitions.
- Model respectful interactions, positive guidance, and healthy social behavior.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional learning, and program enhancement initiatives.
Requirements
- Formal Early Childhood Education training, such as an ECE certificate, diploma, or degree.
- Current provincial certification in British Columbia, or eligibility to become certified.
- Understanding of child development, developmentally appropriate practice, and play-based inquiry learning.
- Ability to create inclusive and responsive learning spaces for children from diverse cultural backgrounds, abilities, and family structures.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills for working with children, families, and colleagues.
- Experience with observation, assessment, and documentation of children’s learning and progress.
- Ability to use observations to guide curriculum planning.
- Commitment to positive guidance, social-emotional learning, and a calm, joyful classroom environment.
- Valid first aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and licensing requirements for early childhood education settings.
- Willingness to continue learning and engage with the Curiosity Approach, Hygge in Early Years, or similar educational frameworks.
