Role Overview
The Disaster Recovery Manager role involves steering enterprise-wide disaster recovery planning and readiness to ensure critical systems and services are reliably restored after interruptions. The position requires formulating recovery strategies, overseeing testing, and enhancing organizational resilience.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and enforce enterprise disaster recovery policies, governance frameworks, standards, and methodologies aligned with organizational goals, business continuity needs, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee disaster recovery planning for key infrastructure, applications, cloud platforms, data centers, networks, databases, and essential business services to meet recovery objectives.
- Collaborate extensively with IT, cybersecurity, infrastructure, cloud operations, business continuity, risk management, compliance, facilities, operations teams, vendors, and leadership to integrate recovery capabilities.
- Conduct business impact analyses, recovery dependency assessments, risk evaluations, and prioritize recovery actions by defining RTOs and RPOs and restoration strategies.
- Track recovery readiness KPIs including test success rates, recovery times, system availability, audit results, resilience maturity, and compliance adherence.
- Maintain and update disaster recovery plans, runbooks, procedures, communications, escalation workflows, and crisis response documents.
- Coordinate and execute disaster recovery drills such as tabletop exercises, failover tests, cyber recovery scenarios, and analyze outcomes for continual enhancements.
- Ensure recovery approaches accommodate hybrid, cloud, on-premises, and multi-cloud environments in alignment with cybersecurity and enterprise architecture standards.
- Manage vendor relationships for cloud services, disaster recovery, managed services, telecommunications, and third-party recovery specialists to uphold recovery capabilities and contractual compliance.
- Utilize various management platforms and tools including disaster recovery management, BCM systems, ERP, cloud management interfaces, Microsoft Office, Power BI, ITSM, and monitoring software to assess readiness and generate strategic insights.
- Produce detailed reports, dashboards, executive presentations, test summaries, audit documentation, and provide strategic advice to senior leadership and governance bodies.
- Lead, mentor, and develop disaster recovery specialists, infrastructure engineers, business continuity coordinators, and cross-functional teams fostering a culture emphasizing resilience, accountability, collaboration, and continuous progress.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Business Continuity, Engineering, Risk Management or a related discipline preferred.
- Advanced degrees or professional certifications such as CBCP, CDRE, ISO 22301 Lead Implementer, CISSP, CISM, ITIL or equivalent are highly valued.
- More than 5 years experience in disaster recovery, business continuity, IT infrastructure, cloud operations, cybersecurity, resilience planning or similar fields.
- At least 2 years managing disaster recovery programs, business continuity efforts, infrastructure operations, or enterprise resilience projects is preferable.
- Comprehensive understanding of disaster recovery planning, business continuity management, backup and recovery technologies, cloud resilience, virtualization, cybersecurity principles, risk management, and enterprise infrastructure architecture.
- Hands-on experience with disaster recovery platforms, BCM software, ITSM tools, ERP systems, Microsoft Office, Power BI, major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), backup solutions, and infrastructure monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with cyber recovery tactics, ransomware defenses, zero trust models, AI-based infrastructure monitoring, DevSecOps practices, infrastructure as code, and adherence to regulatory frameworks is advantageous.
- Strong leadership, analytical thinking, strategic planning, crisis management, organizational skills, project oversight, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, presentation, facilitation, documentation, and collaboration skills across diverse teams.
- Capability to lead enterprise disaster recovery efforts balancing operational resilience, technology availability, cybersecurity, compliance, and business objectives.
- Autonomous working ability in remote or hybrid settings including availability for disaster recovery events, emergency responses, and after-hours testing as needed.
