Role Overview
Teletrac Navman is hiring a Director of Software Engineering to shape and grow the company’s software and mobile engineering capability across both core systems and customer-facing products. This is a senior, highly accountable leadership position for someone who is comfortable owning outcomes end to end in a complex environment.
The role is ideal for a leader who values delivery excellence, dependable systems, modern engineering methods, and the practical use of AI in engineering workflows.
Key Responsibility Areas
In this position, you will be responsible for the performance, stability, and delivery of several engineering teams working on the core platform and mobile offerings. You will work closely with Product, the PMO, and senior leaders to turn strategy into execution, while also improving sustainment practices and introducing AI-supported engineering approaches.
The role combines people leadership, technical direction, and operational discipline. Success will depend on predictable delivery, strong customer outcomes, reliable platforms, and the quality of the engineering organisation you help build.
Engineering Leadership and Delivery
- Take complete ownership of software delivery, engineering execution, and service reliability across the function.
- Convert business and product strategy into clear, measurable engineering results.
- Set up strong operating cadences, team standards, and accountability mechanisms.
- Serve as the escalation lead for difficult delivery situations and technical issues.
Sustainment and Customer Outcomes
- Own the lifecycle of customer support tickets, including backlog quality and SLA performance.
- Cut down repeat problems by applying root-cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.
- Ensure strong outcomes across frontend, services, and mobile environments.
Backlog, Change, and Delivery Control
- Lead intake, prioritisation, and execution of support tickets and change requests.
- Work with Product to maintain clear requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Oversee release planning, risk reduction, and the coordination of several delivery streams.
Projects and Cross-Functional Execution
- Own major engineering initiatives from early definition through to delivery.
- Provide dependable estimates, delivery schedules, and risk assessments.
- Coordinate execution across firmware, data, reporting, and platform teams.
AI and Engineering Innovation
- Introduce AI-based capabilities that improve productivity, quality, and support processes.
- Encourage the use of AI-assisted development tools and modern workflows.
- Collaborate with Product and Data teams to add intelligent features where relevant.
People Leadership
- Lead and develop engineering managers and senior engineers.
- Build a scalable, high-performing organisation with strong succession depth.
- Foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
Metrics and Continuous Improvement
- Define and manage KPIs covering delivery, quality, reliability, and throughput.
- Use data and performance insights to continually improve engineering outcomes.
Experience Required
This is a senior leadership role and is not suitable for people seeking a hands-off management position, delivery coordination work, or responsibility limited to smaller-scale teams.
You should bring at least 12 years of software engineering experience, including 8 or more years in senior engineering leadership roles, along with proven ownership of multi-team or platform-level engineering organisations. Experience in mobile, backend, or full-stack engineering is important, as is exposure to AI or ML in products or engineering workflows.
You will need a strong track record in delivery, operations, and production environments, plus experience working at scale across Agile, Hybrid, and Waterfall delivery models. Strong stakeholder leadership with Product, PMO, and executive teams is essential, and experience delivering SaaS or large-scale platforms is important.
Preferred Background
- Solid knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud-native system design.
- Experience with platforms that require high availability and are customer-facing.
- Background in sustainment-heavy or support-driven engineering environments.
- Exposure to IoT, telematics, or device-ingested data systems.

Success in this role means operating at true director level: balancing immediate delivery needs with longer-term technical direction. You will be expected to make decisions based on data, set clear expectations, and improve performance across both people and systems. Strong communication with senior leaders and the ability to bring clarity to complex situations are essential.
