About the Role
Join Air New Zealand's pioneering Digital team and help revolutionize the travel experience with innovative software solutions catered to millions of travelers worldwide. As a graduate software engineer, you will be embedded in a cross-functional squad with mentorship to enhance your technical abilities and contribute across various engineering disciplines such as Java microservices, front-end web and mobile applications, and test automation.
Key Responsibilities and Experience
- Collaborate daily within a dynamic cross-functional team environment.
- Develop, test, and maintain digital products that support the travel customer journey.
- Engage with mentors to grow your software engineering competency across multiple tech areas.
- Contribute to multiple aspects of software engineering including backend services and frontend experiences.
Candidate Profile
- Possess or are pursuing a tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related STEM field with a solid software engineering foundation.
- Final year student completing your qualification by the end of 2026 or a graduate within the last 18 months.
- Up to 2 years of professional experience in software engineering or related roles.
- Demonstrate passion for technology beyond academics, such as personal projects, open source contributions, AI tools exploration, app or website development, cybersecurity challenges, or data problem-solving.
- Enjoy working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable with ambiguous problem-solving scenarios.
- Legally entitled to work full-time in New Zealand on a permanent basis.

Application and Selection Process
- Apply online between 10 and 23 August, sharing your background, studies, and motivation.
- Complete a self-recorded video introduction showcasing your personality and enthusiasm.
- Attend a Graduate Day at the Auckland office in late September involving individual discussions and group activities.
- Participate in a final chemistry talk with your potential leader to understand day-to-day role expectations.
- Successful candidates will undergo vetting checks before receiving a formal offer in early October.
