About the Role

Join BBC News Africa to deliver data-driven reporting that highlights Africa's pivotal stories to a global audience. This permanent, full-time position based in Nairobi requires you to craft compelling journalism that spans digital, video, and audio platforms, all while adhering to strict deadlines and high editorial standards. Your work will entail producing accurate, impartial, and impactful stories using innovative storytelling and insights on audience engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Create engaging data-focused journalism including live coverage, visual stories, and special digital projects.
• Conduct research, write, edit, and release content across multiple media channels ensuring top editorial quality.
• Employ sound editorial judgment to develop trustworthy, objective, and engaging news coverage.
• Customize content for various platforms and demographics by leveraging creative formats and audience data to enhance reach.
• Work collaboratively with BBC News teams to share content, participate in cross-departmental projects, and advocate best practices.
• Lead or assist in major editorial initiatives and timely news coverage, handling tasks efficiently under pressure.
• Support both live and recorded program production while complying with health and safety regulations and editorial policies.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proven journalistic experience with an emphasis on producing high-quality multimedia, digital, visual, and data journalism for diverse groups.
• Strong skills in research, data interpretation, and narrative development that convert complex data into clear, engaging content.
• Excellent editorial discernment with a comprehensive knowledge of news values, audience expectations, and a dedication to impartial reporting.
• Competence in various digital tools for content gathering, production, and dissemination across broadcasting and social media.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities that foster productive interdepartmental relationships.
• Exceptional organizational skills capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting tight editorial deadlines in fast-paced settings.
