Role Purpose

This Data Analyst position in the Energy & Sustainability team involves managing energy-related data for the real estate portfolio. The analyst will be responsible for analyzing consumption patterns, spotting trends and irregularities, and supporting the identification of areas for energy and carbon reduction. Setting energy budgets and monitoring performance relative to those budgets is a key duty. The role contributes to Bruntwood’s net zero goals by informing and driving improvements across seven sustainability domains: Energy, Emissions, Sustainable Materials, Green Spaces and Biodiversity, Water, Waste, and Sustainable Transportation.

Working Environment

The role requires mostly onsite work to foster productivity and engagement within city-based teams, reflecting our philosophy that thriving cities are best created by being physically present within them. The candidate will occasionally be required to visit various locations approximately once per week.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, benchmark, and report energy consumption data, including total, vacant, service charge, customer, and serviced space metrics compared to peer buildings, previous periods, and industry benchmarks.
• Evaluate and report the effectiveness of energy reduction initiatives.
• Partner with key stakeholders to support strategies aimed at improving energy efficiency.
• Monitor and document the impacts of energy efficiency measures.
• Collaborate with colleagues and suppliers on reporting energy and carbon data for existing buildings and new construction projects.
• Contribute actively to achieving net zero targets and sustainability initiatives across all seven sustainability domains.
• Support external partnership initiatives, including UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) and Better Buildings Partnership (BBP).
• Interpret complex energy data, presenting it clearly to inform business decisions.
• Ensure timely, accurate energy billing across the property portfolio.
• Set and monitor service charge budgets against actual energy use.
• Manage customer inquiries related to energy and sustainability data.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency in Excel for handling and analyzing large datasets, with strong data presentation capabilities.
• Experience with SQL and data visualization/reporting platforms such as Power BI.
• Ability to translate complex data findings into clear, actionable insights for audiences without technical backgrounds.
• Background in or passion for environmental impact reduction, though specific energy or real estate experience is not mandatory.
• A degree in a data-related field such as Mathematics, Finance, or Data Science is preferred but other routes into data analytics are welcomed.
• Strong analytical mindset with a passion for identifying and solving data anomalies and complexities.
• Solution-oriented approach, proactively addressing data issues and enhancing processes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of influencing decision-making based on data insights and contributing positively to team dynamics.
• Constructive critical thinking skills to respectfully challenge data and decision-making processes to ensure evidence-based actions.
