Role Overview
The Corporate Development Analyst will play an essential role in SoFi’s Corporate Development team, contributing to identifying, evaluating, and executing acquisitions, strategic investments, and partnerships that align with SoFi’s growth objectives. This position involves developing advanced financial modeling skills, learning merger and acquisition processes, and collaborating on cross-functional projects while receiving mentorship from experienced colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Corporate Development leadership, SoFi’s executives, and business units to source and execute strategic transactions supporting corporate expansion.
- Participate fully in transaction stages including sourcing, qualification, rationale development, financial modeling, due diligence, closing, and integration.
- Develop investment memoranda, presentations, and recommendations for presentation to senior leadership and the Board.
- Build comprehensive financial models such as long-term projections, discounted cash flow, comparative analyses, and returns evaluations under diverse scenarios.
- Create pro forma financial statements and assess accretion/dilution and purchase price accounting effects.
- Collaborate with internal teams to collect accurate due diligence data efficiently.
- Evaluate targets thoroughly, communicate risks and considerations, and assist in risk mitigation strategies.
- Conduct market research on potential partners, targets, industry trends, competition, and shifting technologies.
- Build and sustain relationships with stakeholders including potential partners, industry experts, and advisors.
- Contribute to special projects such as exploring new business lines, product expansions, international growth, divestitures, and cost management.
- Prepare and deliver updates and analyses to support data-driven decision-making by Corporate Development and senior leaders.
- Promote a positive culture aligned with SoFi’s values, fostering inclusivity, belonging, and mentorship within the team and beyond.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Accounting, or related discipline.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in investment banking, consulting, private equity, venture capital, strategic finance, or corporate development.
- Strong analytical capabilities in financial, valuation, and quantitative data analysis coupled with familiarity of accounting principles and operational metrics.
- Advanced expertise with Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs/Sheets/Slides.
- Proven project management skills for managing time-sensitive, deal-related tasks and competing priorities.
- Collaborative approach with a track record of effective cross-team and cross-functional cooperation.
- Exceptional organizational skills adaptable to fast-changing business demands and deadlines.
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to pivot quickly in dynamic, unstructured environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting complex data clearly to executives and stakeholders.
- Alignment with SoFi’s mission and culture, demonstrating a team-oriented mindset and eagerness to learn and contribute.
- Keen interest in the global FinTech and adjacent financial services landscapes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within FinTech, financial services, or banking industries.
- Background managing all phases of M&A or investment transactions.
- Familiarity with financial research platforms such as SNL, Bloomberg, or Factset.
