Overview

Lumwana Mining Company is seeking an energetic and dedicated Engineer to fill the role of Coordinator Long Term Planning within the dynamic Mine Planning Team. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver Life of Mine (LOM) budget plans and assets mine schedules aligned with strategic company goals.
  • Maintain and update long-term mine plans using real-time mining data to support cost- and production-optimized targets.
  • Utilize software tools including Deswik LHS to optimize fleet management over the life of the mine.
  • Contribute to mineral reserves reporting, specifically NI-14-101 compliance, and support scoping/pre-feasibility studies for potential projects.
  • Generate mineral reserve estimates according to international criteria.
  • Run mine optimization models and scenario analyses for existing and new ore bodies.
  • Design medium- and short-term mine elements, including pit and dump layouts, ROM pads, and haul roads to maximize production efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Establish and monitor cut-off grades and compare actual versus design pit parameters to assure planned objectives.
  • Recommend improvements in geotechnical or technological aspects to enhance long-term operational output.
  • Ensure mine planning services meet operational and project needs while integrating environmental policies into planning processes.
  • Implement and monitor staff training programs and maintain adherence to statutory regulations and procedures.

Candidate Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 certificate.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering is mandatory.
  • A minimum of five years’ relevant experience in mining, particularly in planning and production engineering for large-scale open pit mines.
  • Demonstrated capability to mentor and upgrade skills within the Medium and Short-Term Planning teams.
  • Proficiency in Deswik scheduling, Evolution, and Vulcan planning software.
  • Experience with mine optimization tools such as Whittle 4x.
  • Strong teamwork and initiative-driven mindset with a valid driver's license.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Technical report writing skills are advantageous.
  • Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) is required.
