Joining as one of the initial hires for our commercial legal team in Singapore, you will be instrumental in establishing scalable contracting processes across Southeast Asia and the wider APAC region. You will collaborate extensively with Product, Sales, Finance, Business Operations, Research, and Procurement departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, analyze, negotiate, and finalize complex commercial deals involving enterprise clients, vendors, and strategic partners, including intellectual property licensing agreements.
- Design and propose scalable solutions to enhance contract efficiency.
- Work jointly with business units and legal colleagues to optimize contract management workflows, identify risks, and continually improve contract handling procedures.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Sales, Business Operations, Research, and Procurement teams to meet business goals and provide strategic, pragmatic legal solutions.
- Partner with in-region legal counsel and lead counsel to prioritize and coordinate regional legal work effectively between regional and global teams.
- Lead the regional deployment of process improvements, policy updates, and programs initiated from global headquarters, including organizing training sessions to keep stakeholders informed and prepared.
- Contribute to additional legal areas as needed, supporting various team functions and leveraging your experience or interests.
Minimum Qualifications
- In-depth understanding of software and SaaS agreements, reseller contracts, service agreements, strategic partnerships, and general commercial contract terms.
- Capability to independently draft, review, and negotiate sophisticated commercial and procurement contracts.
- Experience managing the entire contract lifecycle for technology transactions, sales, or partnership agreements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Over 8 years of relevant contract management experience, including at least 5 years focused on technology deals, sales, or partnerships.
- Proven ability to perform in a fast-paced tech startup environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
- Experience working in global or distributed legal teams and aligning local and central priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated autonomy in work with sound judgment on escalation and decision-making, maintaining communication with global stakeholders.
- Familiarity with contract lifecycle management tools such as Ironclad for drafting, automation, and reporting.
- Strong skills in asynchronous communication, proactive status reporting, and managing remote collaboration across time zones.
- Insight into critical contractual elements aligning with organizational mission, including flexibility and firmness where appropriate.
- Ability to design and implement efficient processes and policies.
- Preference for clear and concise legal communication over complex legal jargon.
- Comfort in navigating unfamiliar legal areas beyond one’s core expertise.
- Ability to thrive in cross-functional teams developing frontier technologies, with eagerness to understand technical aspects deeply.
- Excellent communication, analytical, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ethical integrity and appreciation of ethics in business.
