Descrizione del lavoro

Role summary

This role is based at NMS NPS SKEGNESS PROBATION OFFICE, PE25 1TF. It is a full-time position of 37 hours per week, organised as four condensed working days of 9.25 hours each. At least one of those days must be a weekend day, with the remaining three days confirmed after appointment. The post also requires travel to different work locations across the Lincolnshire area.

This is an operational post where you will directly oversee groups of people completing community sentence unpaid work. The role may involve driving service vehicles to move people or equipment, and you will be expected to supervise work sites, support service users, and demonstrate good practice where needed.

Working pattern and conditions

Community Payback projects operate seven days a week, so the role includes frequent weekend working and may occasionally require evening cover. Weekend work is paid at a 50% higher rate. The work is active and fast-paced, and normal rest breaks may not always happen in the usual way; wellbeing support is provided when this occurs.

Annual pay progression is available through a Competency Based Framework, subject to eligibility, and new starters are expected to begin at the minimum of the pay band. Pay band ranges are also updated annually in line with Civil Service pay guidance.

What the role involves

You will lead and motivate small groups of people completing their unpaid work hours, helping them carry out practical tasks safely and to a good standard. Typical duties can include clearing overgrowth, improving public spaces, restoring community facilities such as sports halls and playgrounds, planting trees, laying flowerbeds, picking litter, and removing graffiti.

The role suits someone who enjoys varied, hands-on work and wants to make a direct contribution to both the community and the people they supervise. It is a people-focused post, requiring empathy, confidence, and a willingness to take charge.

Mandatory requirements

A full UK manual driving licence is essential for this position. Automatic-only licences are not accepted.

You must also have the legal right to work in the UK and in the Civil Service. This role is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa. HMPPS cannot sponsor applicants unless they held a Skilled Worker visa before 22 July 2025, and continuous visa holders will be assessed under the transitional rules during pre-employment checks.

Recruitment process

Applicants are asked to complete a short application form and provide responses to two Civil Service behaviour questions and one experience-based question. Applications will be reviewed after the closing date, and further updates will be shared as the process continues. If application volumes are high, only the lead behaviour may be assessed, and progression to later stages is not guaranteed.

About the opportunity

This is a meaningful role within the Probation Service, offering job security, benefits, and opportunities for career development. The work is varied and gives you the chance to make a real difference to individuals on probation and to the wider community.
