About the Organization and Role

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee has enriched the lives of young people in the region for over fifty years by fostering one-on-one mentoring relationships between adult volunteers and youth. The Community Engagement Manager, reporting to the Director of Volunteer Recruitment, plays a vital role in amplifying volunteer involvement and strengthening community ties. This position is based in Nashville, incorporating hybrid work with some required on-site presence. The role involves advancing volunteer recruitment strategies, coordinating diverse volunteer opportunities ranging from traditional mentoring to micro-mentoring and special events, as well as managing community engagement initiatives and the BBBSMT Ambassadors program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute proactively to the creation and implementation of recruitment and community engagement strategies.
  • Organize and facilitate volunteer information sessions both online and face-to-face, along with planning and executing volunteer recruitment events and community programs.
  • Develop and sustain a network of corporate and community partners in collaboration with the Development and Donor Relations teams, including participation in local networking and affiliate groups to identify new mentors and leads.
  • Collaborate across departments to offer a variety of volunteer opportunities, including managing micro-mentoring and one-time engagements.
  • Plan and execute community events designed to stimulate volunteer inquiries and participation.
  • Oversee the Ambassadors Program by selecting, onboarding, scheduling, and leading ambassador activities and event tabling.
  • Support internal programs such as affinity groups and initiatives that enhance volunteer satisfaction and connection to the organization.
  • Partner with the Advancement Team to organize National Mentoring Month activities including the Big Appreciation Celebration.
  • Engage in professional development and training as offered by the agency and the National office.
  • Contribute to organizational priorities focused on resource development as a member of the Advancement Team.
  • Maintain flexible work hours to support recruitment, outreach, and community events, which typically includes evening and weekend commitments.
