Role overview
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a HCPC state-registered Clinical Scientist to join its Clinical Genomics laboratory in Sutton. This is an opportunity to contribute to advanced cancer diagnostics and help expand molecular testing and personalised cancer medicine within the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub.
The position carries an incentive recruitment and retention bonus of 5%.
What you will do
You will support a fast-moving Molecular Diagnostics service for both internal and external cases, using specialised genetics software to analyse and report complex molecular investigations. The work will focus on haematological and solid tumour diagnostics, with a strong emphasis on quality, accuracy and timely delivery.
The role includes involvement in service development, standardisation of new technologies, and validation of tests and workflows. You will also contribute to the implementation of clinical NGS and related protocols for personalised cancer medicine.
You will work closely with clinicians, oncologists and histopathologists so that laboratory findings directly support patient treatment and care. In addition, you may take sole responsibility for laboratory activities on occasion.
Leadership, quality and research
Alongside your diagnostic work, you will help supervise and mentor junior staff, maintain compliance with professional and accreditation standards, and support quality management activities. The post also involves training responsibilities and contribution to the department’s translational research programme.
