Clinical Informaticist

Overview

The Clinical Informaticist plays a vital role in bridging clinical operations and IT teams by collaborating with medical staff, hospital administration, and technology partners to enhance Cerner system configurations and related IT projects. Operating primarily within clinical operations, the specialist acts as the liaison throughout system assessment, design, implementation, optimization, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance including testing, troubleshooting, training, and go-live support.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate with multidisciplinary staff to define and refine clinical workflows for providers, nursing, front office, ancillary services, lab, radiology, pharmacy, and medication administration.
• Lead the design of future workflow states using clinical expertise and application knowledge.
• Provide training and promote positive user experiences for clinical IT solutions among clinicians.
• Develop and oversee Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for designated facilities.
• Manage clinical application implementations and deliver first- and second-tier end-user support.
• Collaborate with internal teams and vendors for software upgrades and feature enhancements, ensuring thorough testing of new functionalities.
• Track project status, resolve issues, produce progress reports, and escalate concerns when appropriate.
• Evaluate applications for improvement opportunities and analyze errors, working closely with users and vendors to resolve issues promptly.
• Support and troubleshoot inbound and outbound system interfaces.
• Determine operational goals by analyzing functions, data collection, and output expectations.
• Create and maintain user documentation and training materials; provide help desk support and conduct user training.
• Maintain system protocols by updating and documenting procedures.
• Participate as a liaison on various institutional and enterprise IT committees.
• Assist leadership in identifying subject matter experts for project assignments.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience involving clinical application implementation, testing, and continuous support.
• Minimum of 1 year of consulting experience in Health Care Information Technology (HCIT).
• Practical knowledge of clinical workflows is essential.
• Experience with Cerner systems is highly advantageous.
• Background as a licensed clinical or healthcare worker is beneficial.
• Preference for candidates experienced with ambulatory clinical workflows, as this role primarily supports ambulatory providers and clinicians.
• Ability to perform weekly onsite visits for end-user support and rounding.
• Self-driven, with a proactive approach to identifying improvement opportunities.
• Adaptable and flexible to changing demands.
• Strong communication skills geared towards leadership, providers, and colleagues.

Compensation

The salary for this position ranges from $107,000 to $117,000.
