Role Overview
We seek a skilled Civil/Structural Engineer to join our Central Engineering team based in Dublin. This position involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary group entrusted with delivering some of the industry’s most demanding and time-sensitive engineering initiatives, especially within the Data Centre sector. Candidates with 6 to 15 years of experience in design engineering are encouraged to apply.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct structural design assessments for international assignments, demonstrating solid expertise in Eurocode and applicable local annexes. Must be able to research and apply local regulations as needed.
- Produce design calculations using industry-standard software for diverse building projects.
- Review technical drawings and project specifications thoroughly.
- Act as Mercury’s representative during client and consultant meetings.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and maintain documentation per company standards.
- Perform site surveys and inspections to ensure compliance and quality.
- Manage both personal workload and coordinate tasks for others.
- Oversee site construction activities and monitor progress.
- Contribute to defining and managing scopes of work for sub-consultants affiliated with Mercury.
- Initiate Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical submittals during development phases of structural design.
- Review and enhance established standard details and specifications.
- Assume technical accountability for the quality of design outputs.
- Evaluate structural submissions ensuring consistency across project packages.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or an equivalent degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related field.
- Progressing towards professional chartered engineer status.
- Previous experience in design consultancy; background with contractor organizations is beneficial.
- Strong technical capabilities in designing steel and concrete structures, including cast-in-place and precast elements.
- Solid understanding of load paths and force distribution within building structures.
- Expertise in lateral force-resisting systems for structural stability.
- Proficient with Windows OS and computer-aided design tools such as AutoCAD, Tedds, and Tekla Structural Designer or similar. Knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and BIM360 is advantageous.
- Ability to deliver accurate results under pressure while managing multiple projects.
- A broad perspective beyond own discipline to appreciate interdisciplinary aspects of projects.
- Basic financial literacy with a willingness to develop this skill.
- Effective communication skills both in writing and verbally, including report writing and presentations to clients.
- Flexibility to travel within Ireland and internationally for project needs.
