The Opportunity
TradeWindow is hiring an experienced Chief Technology Officer to take ownership of technology direction, platform design, and leadership across the Technology and Product functions. Reporting to the CEO, this person will serve as the main technical authority and governance lead, helping deliver a major platform modernisation programme on schedule and within budget.
This is a senior, high-impact role for a practical leader who enjoys working in a lean, scaling SaaS business and is motivated by creating technology solutions that are both scalable and commercially effective within the TradeTech space.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the organisation’s technology strategy and translate it into an actionable roadmap.
- Guide the architecture and ongoing evolution of the TradeWindow platform, including shared services such as workflows, document handling, customs capabilities, and operational services, along with reusable components that support freight forwarder and shipper operating models.
- Lead both the Technology and Product teams, balancing the needs of established products that protect stability and revenue with newer squads building fresh capabilities.
- Create a scalable integration approach, common data structures, and API-led patterns that help unify products and reduce duplicated effort.
- Define platform standards, technical governance, guardrails, and engineering practices that support scalability, security, and long-term maintainability.
- Use AI-enabled methods such as assisted coding, automated testing, and intelligent workflows to speed up delivery.
- Make key architectural decisions, prepare option papers for senior leadership review, and ensure solutions support commercial outcomes such as revenue growth and cost savings.
- Stay closely involved in architecture through build, validation, release, and customer rollout stages.
- Support governance by regularly updating senior leadership and the Board on risks, dependencies, and programme status.
- Coach and develop the team in modern platform engineering methods while maintaining strong efficiency and commercial discipline.
About You
You offer a strong mix of technical depth, executive-level leadership, and practical delivery capability, suited to a listed SaaS company in a growth phase.
Essential Experience and Skills
- At least 10 years of progressive technology experience, including 5 or more years in senior leadership positions such as CTO, VP Engineering, or Principal/Senior Platform Architect in SaaS or enterprise software.
- A proven history of designing and delivering modern SaaS platforms, including microservices, API-first or API-led architectures, event-driven systems, shared services, and scalable integration layers.
- Strong experience leading platform modernisation and product consolidation work, moving from legacy systems to a unified platform.
- Advanced knowledge of cloud-native architecture, preferably on AWS or Azure, plus shared data modelling, complex workflow orchestration, usage-based monetisation, and embedded AI/ML.
- Experience using AI tools to improve development and operational speed.
- Knowledge of logistics, freight forwarding, trade compliance, or other high-volume transaction environments is a strong advantage.
- Excellent people leadership ability, with a background in building and mentoring high-performing cross-functional teams in lean settings.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical groups including senior leadership, the Board, Sales, and customers.
- Practical experience with Jira, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments, and architecture tools.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
