The organization serves thousands of people each year with shelter, food, recovery support, care, and skilled professional assistance. With more than 350 employees working across nearly 30 programs, the team focuses on practical, safe, and innovative responses to urgent community needs.
Role Overview
Victory Programs is hiring a Chief Financial Officer for an immediate opening at its central Jamaica Plain office. The organization has annual revenue of more than $30 million, and this leadership role is central to protecting financial stability, supporting growth, and strengthening long-term sustainability. The CFO will align financial planning with the mission of expanding access to high-quality care for underserved communities.
This senior leader will oversee finance, accounting, budgeting, reporting, billing, and internal controls. The position requires experience in nonprofit finance, strong leadership, and a commitment to improving health and housing access for people in need.
As part of the senior leadership group, the CFO will work closely with the CEO, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors to guide strategy and support the organization’s future. The role also manages the agency’s financial systems, including payroll, accounts receivable, billing, and accounts payable.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and execute the organization’s financial direction so it supports the mission, vision, and long-range goals.
- Advise the CEO and Board on important financial decisions and strategic priorities.
- Lead the finance function, ensuring smooth operations across billing, payables, and payroll.
- Build a workplace culture grounded in financial clarity, teamwork, and accountability.
- Direct the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Create accurate budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecasts.
- Track performance against budget, explain variances, and recommend corrective action when needed.
- Report financial results, forecasts, and KPIs to leadership and stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including grant-related reporting requirements.
- Manage audits, tax filings, and external reporting so submissions are accurate and timely.
- Identify and reduce financial risk through strong controls, fraud prevention, and sound governance practices.
- Maintain effective relationships with auditors, regulators, and other financial partners.
- Lead the annual budgeting process with department heads and senior leaders.
- Develop financial models and help allocate resources to support program effectiveness.
- Coach managers on budget management, expense tracking, and financial efficiency.
- Oversee the full revenue cycle, including billing, reimbursement, and collections.
- Improve revenue cycle processes while following federal and state requirements.
- Support efforts to strengthen payer mix, increase revenue, and reduce denials.
- Evaluate financial plans tied to growth, including expansion, grants, and new services.
- Review mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and joint ventures from a financial standpoint.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree or other advanced study is preferred.
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience, ideally in a nonprofit or government setting.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in general ledger accounting and/or cost accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting systems, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable; experience with Billing Central and Paylocity is preferred.
- Familiarity with state, city, and federal compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent problem-solving ability and creative thinking.
- Sound judgment supported by accurate, timely analysis.
- Strong communication and project management skills across all organizational levels and with staff at off-site locations.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Comfort working independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills.
- Current CPR certification is required, though it may be obtained after hire.
- Tuberculosis screening is required, though it may be completed after hire.
- Three professional references from prior employment, including at least two managers or supervisors.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual starting salary for this exempt position is $170,000. Victory Programs does not negotiate salary for exempt roles and provides its best offer upfront as part of an equity-focused compensation approach.
