The Brenda Strafford Foundation’s Heart Home Network (HHN) supports women and children affected by family violence by providing safe housing and comprehensive support services. Their mission focuses on assisting families to realize their potential and transition to secure, healthy community living after leaving HHN.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for community members and staff.
• Apply intersectional perspectives to recognize multiple barriers faced by clients.
• Use trauma-informed and strengths-based engagement methods during assessments.
• Work with vulnerable clients with complex needs by assessing their eligibility and safety for programs.
• Maintain open communication through innovative engagement techniques.
• Promote human rights and foster safe spaces that celebrate diversity and inclusion.
• Continuously research and utilize community resources, referral procedures, and new programs.
• Identify gaps in community services and collaborate on advocacy or projects addressing client needs.
• Advocate for clients and collaborate with external agencies to support participant and community objectives.
• Partner with referral agencies to assess client needs and conduct compassionate intake interviews.
• Perform comprehensive, trauma-sensitive intake assessments and evaluate client suitability for services.
• Document safety issues and assist with immediate safety planning.
• Coordinate smooth onboarding with operations teams and update participant records accurately.
• Support clients through intake procedures and move-in logistics.
• Stay connected with local support organizations and maintain knowledge of social housing options.
• Provide assessment-based case management including referrals and system advocacy.
• Attend appointments and offer transportation services to clients as needed.
• Navigate mental health referrals and support child protection/visitation processes.
• Maintain detailed participant documentation, case notes, and statistics.
• Attend relevant meetings and facilitate feedback integration from partners and stakeholders.
• Submit monthly expense reports to management.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Degree in community development, social work, psychology, child and youth care work, behavioral science, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
• Registration with appropriate provincial body depending on degree is advantageous.
• Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) is mandatory.
• In-depth knowledge of local community resources, programs, and services for individuals and families.
• Ability to take an intersectional approach to reduce barriers for families in crisis.
• Familiarity with outcome measurement and reporting considered a plus.
• Strong time management and ability to work independently.
• Excellent critical thinking, contingency planning, and reflective practice skills.
• Superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
• Flexibility in scheduling to meet participant requirements.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years.
• Knowledge of a second language is beneficial.

Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check in accordance with Alberta's Protection for Persons in Care Act.
