Buyer (Manufacturing)

Role overview

In this position, you will manage the purchasing of components and raw materials needed for manufacturing operations. You will work closely with the Global Procurement team to build strong supplier relationships, make sure critical materials arrive on time, resolve supplier quality matters with Quality Assurance, keep inventory at healthy levels to avoid production disruptions, and track supplier delivery and performance.

Team and reporting line

You will report to the Purchasing Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Review purchase requisitions by using forecasts and historical demand data, seek clarification from planners when information is unclear, and recommend suitable alternatives where needed.
• Work with suppliers to plan deliveries that match production schedules and coordinate with planners to support uninterrupted factory supply.
• Raise purchase orders after confirming supplier capacity, product specifications, and pricing accuracy, and obtain approval when any deviation in price or specifications is required.
• Support the Global Procurement team in supplier price discussions and negotiations.
• Partner with Quality Assurance to resolve delivery or product-quality issues and manage returns and replacements for rejected parts through RGA processes.
• Evaluate supplier performance and contribute feedback for the Supplier Score Card.
• Manage inventory by aligning forecasts with planners, adjusting safety stock, applying JIT replenishment methods, and calculating EOQ as needed.
• Handle supplier requests to cancel orders based on SAP exception reports to reduce exposure and avoid excess inventory.
• Identify cost-reduction opportunities and share them with the Procurement team for supplier negotiation.
• Follow Molex procurement policies as well as EHS requirements.
• During supply shortages, take responsibility for allocating materials between subcontractors and Molex in a way that best supports business outcomes.
• Carry out other duties assigned by management.

Basic qualifications

• A GCE A-Level, Diploma, or a higher qualification is required.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience is needed.
• Strong organization and communication skills are essential.
• You should be able to work independently, solve problems, and improve performance measures.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is required.
• You should understand logistics terminology and basic economic concepts.

Preferred profile

• Hands-on knowledge of purchasing workflows will be an advantage.
• Experience in a manufacturing setting, especially in purchasing and procurement, is preferred.
• Familiarity with SAP and supplier management tools will be beneficial.
