Role Overview

The Business Development Director for Data Centres plays a pivotal strategic role in driving Infrastructure Products Europe’s (IPE) commercial growth in the data centre market. The role involves crafting and executing strategies, cultivating client relationships, and accelerating sales pipelines with hyperscalers, colocation providers, EPC contractors, and engineering consultants across Europe and selected international markets. The post demands considerable sector insight and commercial expertise to influence product specifications early in project phases, ensuring successful outcomes and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute a data centre-focused commercial growth plan aligned with IPE’s strategic vision.
  • Develop a comprehensive go-to-market approach, including product positioning, pipeline growth, customer targeting, and strategic account management.
  • Manage and expand a sales pipeline across hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation data centre ventures.
  • Discover and capitalize on emerging business opportunities and revenue streams within the data centre ecosystem.
  • Provide sector expertise to foster innovative product line design and market leadership.
  • Coordinate data centre activities within CRH’s European and Australian operations and liaise with the US network to maximize opportunities.
  • Drive integration of IPE products in data centre operator design guides and engineering specifications.
  • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with critical stakeholders throughout the data centre supply chain.
  • Lead or contribute to tender submissions and negotiate commercial agreements for major sector projects.
  • Collaborate with leadership on tailored product, pricing, and margin strategies meeting sector needs.
  • Maintain robust networks of consultants, engineers, and specialist providers.
  • Work with marketing to tailor materials and content for data centre audiences.
  • Coordinate pricing strategies ensuring competitiveness while protecting company margins.
  • Partner with innovation teams to commercialize new products aligned with project demands.
  • Provide insights to refine commercial policies supporting sector growth and alignment.
  • Utilize market intelligence and customer inputs to refine product offerings and value propositions.
  • Champion customer-focused initiatives improving engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Ensure effective collaboration across marketing, sales, operations, and product departments.
  • Support Commercial Director with account management, CRM upkeep, sales forecasting, and reporting.
  • Represent IPE professionally to clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Maintain frequent communication with customer service teams, managing task priorities and key relationships.
  • Facilitate internal coordination to guarantee successful project outcomes.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across Europe, the US, Middle East, and other international locations as needed.
  • Extensive experience in sales, business development, procurement, or technical roles within the data centre domain.
  • Proven success in securing complex, specification-driven, large-scale data centre projects.
  • Strong background in international technical sales or procurement contexts.
  • Familiarity working with data centre operators, hyperscalers, EPC contractors, and consulting engineering firms.
  • Demonstrated skills in commercial leadership and managing diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, financial knowledge, and negotiation capabilities in technical-commercial environments.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on commercial execution effectively.
