About the Role
Smiths Mitre 10 MEGA is a family-run Christchurch business focused on delivering exceptional customer service with every interaction. This opportunity is based at the Papanui store, where you will join a team committed to making the Papanui MEGA a leading destination for trade and DIY customers.
The position is a full-time, permanent, hands-on role for someone who enjoys merchandising, strong organisation, and guiding a small team to achieve excellent in-store presentation and sales outcomes. The role is 42.5 hours per week and requires work on one weekend day, either Saturday or Sunday.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and assist the Bulk Merchandise team in delivering high-quality off-location and promotional displays.
- Roll out national and local promotions, digital catalogues, and in-store events.
- Plan forward orders and place stock in a way that supports healthy stock levels and strong gross profit results.
- Keep bulk merchandise areas, impulse zones, end caps, and seasonal displays aligned with Mitre 10 presentation standards.
- Make sure pricing, tickets, signage, and overall presentation remain accurate, tidy, and safe at all times.
- Work closely with suppliers, inventory staff, operations, and team leaders to keep execution on track.
- Monitor product sell-through and inventory performance using reporting tools.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should bring retail experience, ideally in stock coordination or team leadership, with hardware or big-box retail seen as an advantage. You will need to be comfortable leading a small team, balancing several priorities at once, and staying organised in a busy environment.
You should be customer-focused, physically fit, comfortable being on your feet, and able to lift without restrictions. Attention to detail, a strong safety mindset, and a practical, solutions-oriented approach are also important. Clear communication and the ability to work well with different teams will help you succeed.

Additional Information
This role is a permanent full-time position at 42.5 hours per week. Weekend work is required on one day each week, either Saturday or Sunday. The position is onsite at the Papanui store in Papanui Junction, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand.
