Job Overview
The DeKalb County Government is seeking to fill positions for two Electrical Inspectors and one HVAC Inspector. The role involves conducting on-site inspections across various project locations within the county to ensure compliance with relevant codes related to residential and commercial construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections on construction sites to verify compliance with building codes, including areas such as framing, footing/slabs, HVAC, and plumbing installations.
- Review authorized building plans against actual construction to confirm adherence to codes and standards.
- Identify and document code violations and recommend corrective actions.
- Issue written notices to contractors, engineers, architects, or property owners about inspection outcomes.
- Conduct follow-up inspections to verify that required corrections have been made.
- Issue citations for non-compliance and prepare legal evidence for court proceedings as needed.
- Approve construction activities and final installations meeting building, HVAC, and plumbing codes.
- Maintain detailed inspection records and documentation within departmental systems.
- Communicate effectively with building owners, contractors, developers, and the public regarding codes, procedures, and compliance issues.
- Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for information related to code compliance.
- Perform administrative tasks such as managing phone communications, scheduling inspections, completing daily logs, preparing inspection and certification files, issuing permits and letters, entering data into databases, and maintaining related records.
Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in building trades or construction, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.
- Required to obtain and maintain within six months of employment a valid State of Georgia contractor’s or master trades license relevant to the assignment (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC) or International Code Council (ICC) Residential and Commercial Building Inspection certification in the relevant trade.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Georgia driver’s license is mandatory.
- Additional certifications may be required and must be maintained as necessary.
