About Sonic Healthcare UK

Sonic Healthcare is a globally established healthcare group with a long record of delivering medical services internationally. Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, it is an ASX Top 50 company and one of the world’s major healthcare providers, with a focus on pathology, radiology and primary care medical centres. The organisation operates in Australia, the USA, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand.

Within the UK, Sonic Healthcare operates through two principal entities: The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) and Health Services Laboratories (HSL). HSL is a collaboration between TDL, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). It was created to deliver pathology services to NHS Trusts and has since grown to support additional NHS Trusts. More than 3,500 people work across Sonic Healthcare UK, mainly through TDL or HSL.

The organisation’s aim is to provide clinician-led diagnostics, innovation, value and sustained investment in healthcare. Its main laboratory is at The Halo Building in London WC1H 9AX, with another growing site in Manchester and several smaller hospital laboratories around the country. Sonic Healthcare UK places strong emphasis on quality, efficiency, workforce planning, advanced technology, and major investment in infrastructure and IT.

Role overview

This opportunity is for an experienced HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Pathology TDL Cleveland Clinic team as bank night staff in the Biochemistry department. This is not a trainee position, and only experienced BMS professionals at band 6 level will be considered. The laboratory is located near Victoria station in central London and sits within Cleveland Clinic London, a premium American private hospital and the first of its kind in the UK.

The site operates a 24-hour service and supports a multi-disciplinary workload. Candidates should already have experience across several disciplines, with Blood Transfusion experience being essential. The work pattern covers bank night shifts, including regular Saturday night shifts and additional night cover as needed. The hospital continues to expand, with ongoing developments in clinical procedures and equipment, and includes 29 ITU beds, 8 theatres, Cath Labs, Interventional Radiology and Endoscopy, serving both inpatients and outpatients.

The selected candidate will help with routine processing of pathology samples across Haematology, Biochemistry and Transfusion, along with issuing blood components. Working with MLA support, the role requires efficient workflow management so that all requested tests are completed promptly and urgent or specialist samples are handled appropriately.
