Biologist

Position Overview

This role involves coordinating with multiple agencies, researchers, and stakeholders including state officials, Native American tribes, and private organizations to address technical and administrative concerns of local and national importance. The Biologist will manage data collection, processing, and analysis based on established practices, handling diverse biological, ecological, pathological, and public use data relevant to scientific research.

Key Duties

• Independently liaise and coordinate activities with various involved agencies and partners, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.
• Implement field data collection and processes for analysis following standardized methods and techniques.
• Engage with the public, media, federal and state agencies, Native American groups, and university professionals to distribute scientific and resource-related information.
• Maintain ongoing contact with biologists inside the organization and with federal, tribal, and state bodies conducting related programs.
• Develop and sustain computer databases; analyze, tabulate, and summarize scientific, programmatic, and budget data.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, briefings, and training content based on analytical results and suggestions.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualification criteria by the closing date (August 14, 2026) and satisfy specific time-in-grade standards if currently employed federally.

• Basic Education: Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or closely related fields with verified transcripts required.
• Alternative Education: Equivalent education completed through coursework plus relevant experience may be acceptable.
• Specialized Experience: Minimum one year at the GS-11 Federal level or equivalent experience involving building partnerships with Indigenous Alaskan communities, familiarity with marine mammal harvesting or biology, proficient data management, and travel to remote locations under challenging conditions.
• Volunteer experience demonstrating relevant competencies will be credited.
