Position Overview
We are expanding our Practice Administration and Billing department and seek a meticulous Billing Specialist to join our team. This role encompasses responsibilities in billing, insurance verification, authorizations, and accounts receivable follow-up. The candidate must be detail-focused, organized, and excel in a cooperative work setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately reviewing and processing patient claims and invoices promptly
- Verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, securing and tracking necessary authorizations or pre-certifications as required by insurers
- Addressing billing discrepancies such as denials and underpayments through liaising with insurance providers, patients, and internal personnel
- Preparing and submitting appeals for denied or insufficiently paid claims
- Maintaining comprehensive and precise patient records covering demographics, insurance details, and authorization statuses
- Posting payments and adjustments, closely monitoring accounts receivable to ensure effective collection of balances
- Clearly communicating insurance coverage information, patient obligations, and financial agreements to patients
- Safeguarding patient privacy while adhering to HIPAA regulations
- Partnering with billing, clinical, and front desk teams to facilitate smooth revenue cycle operations
- Participating in training sessions, webinars, and team meetings as required
- Required to work full-time hours onsite at our Stamford, CT facility
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; an Associate degree is preferred
- At least two years of experience in medical billing, accounts receivable, or insurance verification
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems as well as insurance reimbursement workflows
- Experience using billing software, electronic medical records (EMR) systems, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required); familiarity with Prompt EMR is advantageous
- Strong skills in communication, organization, and analysis
- Ability to manage sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision in data entry and documentation
