About Austin PBS
Austin PBS (KLRU-TV) is a community-focused, nonprofit public media station located in Central Texas. Broadcasting around 35,000 hours of curated content annually across four channels and the PBS app, it serves nearly every household in the region. Programming includes arts, culture, history, public affairs, and news at both local and national levels. Austin PBS aims to educate, inspire, and entertain through engaging programming and community events.
Position Summary
We seek a motivated Audio Intern to join our Production team this spring, offering hands-on experience in audio production for live broadcasts and post-production. Working alongside the Lead Audio Engineer and Production Coordinator, interns will assist with studio and field programming, gaining skills in sound design, live mixing, and recording workflows. This role suits students interested in broadcast production, live sound, music recording, and multimedia storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Support audio staff during pre-production, studio sessions, fieldwork, and post-production activities
- Prepare equipment such as microphones, stage plots, and input lists for various shoots
- Assist or observe live audio mixing for audiences, monitors, and final recordings
- Contribute to sweetening audio, delivering files, and other post-production tasks
- Participate in studio productions and field shoots as scheduled
- Collaborate with producers, engineers, and crew to ensure high-quality audio output
- Perform additional production duties as assigned
Candidate Requirements
- Must be an actively enrolled undergraduate student at an accredited college or university throughout the internship period
- Available to work onsite for at least 14 weeks, ideally 15–20 hours per week, with preference for daily attendance
- Strong enthusiasm for broadcast and internet media, live events, or music production
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and basic computer skills
- Excellent communication abilities and capacity to work independently or collaboratively
- Familiarity with Austin PBS content is advantageous
Physical Requirements
The role involves primarily studio and office work with occasional travel to external production sites. The ability to lift production equipment is sometimes necessary.
