The Technical Operations division at BioMarin is tasked with the production of drugs for clinical trials and commercial distribution, maintaining high-quality manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards through quality control, and managing global drug logistics and procurement.

Role Overview

The Associate Director of Master Data Stewardship for Planning & Segmentation manages and safeguards the accuracy and integrity of master data within SAP S4/HANA and IBP systems to support the Forecast to Plan (FTP) process. This position collaborates extensively with business users, data analysts, and IT to uphold data quality, conduct cleansing, validation, enrichment, and migration activities, alongside delivering user training and ongoing support.

Primary Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate master data requests, ensuring compliance with governance, quality standards, and business rules before approval.
• Oversee Data Specialists responsible for executing master data updates, ensuring adherence to standardized procedures and data policies.
• Monitor, analyze, and resolve master data inconsistencies, implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
• Collaborate with process leaders to design, document, and refine quality rules, key performance indicators, workflows, and reporting mechanisms.
• Provide training and advice to Data Specialists and end-users on master data governance best practices and procedures.
• Analyze data trends to identify and pursue continuous improvement opportunities to enhance business efficiency.
• Manage reporting of risks, issues, and scope impacts, preparing business cases for addressing gaps and improvements.
• Act as a change advocate for operational and transformational initiatives across functional and cross-functional teams.
• Develop and implement streamlined data procedures consistent with SAP's first and fit standard design philosophies.
• Foster collaboration with global and regional teams on operational and planning projects.
• Partner with management to assess data quality impact and manage operational/process-related changes.
• Develop methodologies to maintain consistency and quality in global master and transactional business data.
• Create and execute internal and external audit processes ensuring compliance of data attributes and standards.
• Assess master data accuracy, availability, and formatting to support business processes and system integrations.
• Lead and facilitate domain-specific governance meetings to aid decision-making, process updates, and communication flow.
• Represent the data domain in Data Core Team governance activities, ensuring stakeholder needs are met.
• Coordinate with other Data Stewards to ensure global and cross-functional process harmonization.
• Define critical data elements, quality dimensions, and acceptance criteria for FTP and segmentation data, maintaining traceability to business objectives and regulatory controls.
• Lead governance of data rules including authoring, review, approval, testing, deployment, versioning, and retirement, incorporating impact and change management.
• Maintain a central catalog of data rules detailing ownership, lineage, coverage, and effectiveness metrics.
• Integrate data rules into preventive controls such as UI validation and workflows, and detective controls like data quality monitoring with automated alerts.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing SAP master data, with focus on IBP and S4/HANA platforms.
• In-depth knowledge of SAP master data objects, structure, and processes in Supply Chain Logistics and Planning.
• Proficiency in SAP master data tools such as LSMW, BAPI, IDOC, MDG.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative work style.
• Self-driven, proactive, and adaptable to evolving business environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in GxP compliance, including CSV, 21 CFR Part 11/EU Annex 11 requirements, audit readiness, and CAPA processes.

Preferred:

• Experience with SAP Master Data Governance (MDG), Syniti MDM, or similar data governance and quality platforms.
• Familiarity with Veeva Vault modules and analytics/BI tools for reporting and dashboards.
• Background in life sciences distribution compliance.
• APICS or equivalent certification.

Working Conditions

• Hybrid work arrangement with 2–3 days onsite in Shanbally, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.
• Travel commitments approximately 10–20% to various global BioMarin facilities.
• Possibility of providing off-hours support during critical system changes, inspections, or major releases.
