Assistant Estimator - Hyperscale Data Centers

About the Role

We are seeking an Assistant Estimator to assist with preconstruction and cost management for a nationwide portfolio of hyperscale data center projects. This position is part of an owner's representative team overseeing new construction for major cloud, colocation, and enterprise data center clients. The assistant estimator will collaborate with senior estimators and project executives to develop and validate cost models, benchmark contractor bids, and support budget monitoring through design and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Help prepare conceptual, schematic, and detailed cost estimates for data center shell, MEP, and site/civil work.
• Conduct quantity takeoffs and compare costs against historical project data.
• Evaluate general contractor and subcontractor bid packages for accuracy and completeness.
• Monitor budget changes and change order activity during the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate with design teams, general contractors, and internal project managers to verify scope assumptions.
• Update and maintain cost databases and unit price libraries.
• Generate cost comparison reports and summaries for internal and client review.

Qualifications

• Preferred minimum education is a 4-year degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field; equivalent experience may be accepted.
• Strong knowledge of construction cost management, methods, and contract administration.
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines effectively.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills with a clear analytical mindset.
• Experience managing personnel.
• Advanced proficiency with Excel.
