Role Overview
The Data Engineering Architect will concentrate on advanced engineering practices and the development of Modern Data Platforms that support the full data lifecycle and processes. This encompasses Data Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, Data Modernization, building infrastructure platforms, automation including DevOps and CI/CD, as well as applying sound development and delivery methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate within small teams requiring minimal oversight to architect and deliver forward-thinking solutions using AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform technologies, leveraging tools like cloud data warehouses, distributed processing engines, event streaming platforms, and other contemporary data technologies.
- Design and build next-generation data platforms partnering with some of the leading organizations in data and analytics.
- Analyze clients’ current technological environments and challenges, understanding their roadmap for evolving or constructing future state architectures.
- Facilitate design sessions with both Slalom and client technical teams, combining architecture expertise and consultative skills to guide strategy and implementation of data engineering solutions.
- Clearly communicate advantages and drawbacks of proposed architectures and lead teams toward alignment and consensus.
- Decompose complex development assignments, ensuring timely and high-quality completion of assigned work that aligns with the devised technical solution, including oversight of teams reporting to you.
- Engage in pre-sales initiatives such as crafting solution approaches for prospective clients’ technical issues and assisting business development with project estimation and planning.
Qualifications and Experience
- Robust experience in architecture design, with deep expertise in one or more data engineering technologies.
- A curious and proactive approach toward client engagements, continual learning, and a willingness to experiment boldly to solve pressing data challenges.
- Self-driven individual capable of breaking down large problems into manageable parts and regularly sharing insights within projects and the broader community.
- Hands-on familiarity with emerging data platforms and programming languages, including but not limited to:
- Big Data platforms such as Apache Spark, Presto, and Amazon EMR
- Cloud data warehouses like Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, and Google BigQuery
- Object-oriented programming languages including Java and Python
- NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, and MongoDB
- Container orchestration systems including Kubernetes and Amazon ECS
- Real-time data ingestion and analytics tools like Amazon Kinesis and Apache Kafka
- Modern data workflow tools such as Apache Airflow, dbt, and Dagster
