Overview

The Yukon Bureau of Statistics (YBS), a unit within the Yukon government Department of Finance, is dedicated to supporting decision-making for governments, businesses, and residents by providing accurate and timely statistical data. The Bureau gathers, evaluates, and publishes statistical info, and engages in statistical research and data modeling initiatives. It partners with various Yukon government departments and external agencies like Statistics Canada to share expertise and coordinate statistical activities.

Role Summary

We invite applications for an analytical and driven individual to join as an Analyst focused on research and publication. This role involves examining data for both short-term variations and long-standing trends, preparing briefing documents, and releasing reports about demographic, economic, housing, employment, and social trends concerning Yukon and its communities. The role also entails maintaining robust metadata and methodology documentation, monitoring statistical releases from external bodies, responding to information requests, and helping publish statistical products on official platforms and social media.

Key Responsibilities

• Consolidate and examine statistical data to discern meaningful patterns.
• Craft briefing notes and comprehensive information summaries.
• Create detailed reports and publications covering a wide range of social and economic topics relevant to Yukon.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or related social sciences is required.
• Proven experience researching and compiling statistical data and conducting in-depth analysis using Excel and programming languages such as R or Python.
• Skill in interpreting data insights and composing analytical reports.
• Competence in maintaining and updating datasets, metadata, and analytical resources.
• Experience answering client queries related to statistics and advising on data quality and correct use.
• Additional certifications or experience in data analytics, data handling, and desktop publishing tools such as Adobe InDesign are advantageous.
• Prior work within a statistical agency is a plus.
