Role Overview
The Analyst, M&A and Strategy plays a crucial role in supporting the assessment and implementation of inorganic growth efforts, including acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and other key initiatives. Reporting directly to the Director, M&A and Strategy, this role collaborates extensively with senior leadership and offers valuable exposure to board-level decisions and major strategic projects within an expanding alternative asset management firm. It is ideal for proactive banking analysts looking to transition into a long-term strategic role within the alternatives space.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models concerning acquisition targets and internal business forecasts.
- Evaluate transaction frameworks, factors influencing valuation, earnouts, and financing aspects.
- Conduct detailed transaction financial assessments including accretion/dilution analysis, IRR calculations, and comparable market benchmarking.
- Support due diligence by integrating financial, operational, and market insights into practical recommendations.
- Assist in evaluating and executing mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
- Prepare materials for deal committees and board presentations for upcoming transactions.
- Coordinate efforts between internal teams and external consultants.
- Participate in post-announcement integration management, overseeing project streams across critical functions.
- Perform peer analysis and valuation studies on other public asset management firms.
- Analyze trading multiples, precedent transactions, and relevant market data points.
- Monitor competitor disclosures, earnings reports, and investor communications to support shareholder strategy and track private market activity.
- Maintain an internal CRM system tracking M&A pipeline and target opportunities.
- Prepare detailed, executive-level presentations that distill complex data and insights clearly and rigorously.
- Undertake additional assignments or special projects as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a relevant discipline.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in investment banking (preferably in Financial Institutions Group, Asset Management, M&A, Leveraged Finance) or Corporate Development, especially within financial institutions.
- Proven interest in alternative asset management and private markets.
- Strong proficiency in financial modeling and valuation techniques.
- Advanced abilities in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience using financial data platforms like CapitalIQ and PitchBook.
- Solid comprehension of financial statements and accounting principles.
- Remarkable attention to detail, capable of producing top-tier investor-grade documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence engaging senior executives.
- Capability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10-15% of the time.
