About the Role
Join Cosy Farms, a mission-driven startup redefining urban agriculture to produce fresh, sustainable, and delicious food. We are seeking a hands-on Embedded Systems Intern to contribute to our hydroponics farm by developing and deploying firmware that controls various environmental factors critical to plant growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop firmware for Espressif ESP32 microcontrollers using C/C++, ESP-IDF, and Arduino frameworks to monitor sensors and control actuators managing climate, irrigation, dosing, and lighting in our hydroponics setup.
- Design and implement closed-loop control systems using PID controllers and state machines to regulate pH and EC dosing, HVAC, CO2 levels, humidity, and LED photoperiod scheduling.
- Enable connectivity features including MQTT-based sensor data streaming to cloud services, remote configuration management, and secure OTA firmware updates.
- Work with Linux single-board computers such as Raspberry Pi and NVIDIA Jetson to consolidate data from multiple ESP32 nodes, execute local fallback control routines, and provide APIs via Python.
- Perform on-site troubleshooting by inspecting sensor communication buses, diagnosing malfunctioning nodes, and deploying timely fixes directly at the farm.
- Take ownership of small subsystem projects encompassing wiring, firmware development, testing, and implementation within the live hydroponic environment.
Candidate Eligibility
- Must be currently pursuing or have recently completed B.Tech/BE/M.Tech in electronics, electrical engineering, ECE, mechatronics, instrumentation, or a closely related discipline.
- Availability for a full-time, in-office internship at our Mumbai location for one month, starting between July 18, 2026, and August 22, 2026.
- Proven experience completing at least one substantial embedded systems project beyond breadboard level, with evidence such as code repositories, schematics, or demonstration videos.
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming for microcontrollers and Python scripting on Linux platforms; familiarity with at least two communication/peripheral protocols like I2C, SPI, UART, ADC, PWM, and interrupts.
- Ability to interpret datasheets, utilize multimeters, and solder with neat craftsmanship.
- Willingness to work full-time on-site at the farm throughout the internship period.
- Additional valued experience includes expertise in ESP-IDF/FreeRTOS, OTA updates, MQTT/Home Assistant/ESPHome ecosystems, PID control theory, hydroponics or horticultural lighting, KiCad/EasyEDA, and contributions to open-source firmware projects.
- Demonstrates a proactive mindset with a curiosity-driven approach to deconstructing and understanding devices.
Compensation and Benefits
- Monthly stipend ranging from INR 15,000 to INR 18,000.
