Workshop Foreman

About the Role

Take charge of the daily operations in a busy hydraulic workshop, remaining actively engaged in hands-on technical tasks such as repairs and troubleshooting. Your responsibilities will include dismantling, evaluating, fixing, assembling, and testing hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, and related components used in various equipment and applications.

Manage multiple assignments from initial assessment to completion, carefully balancing priorities, parts availability, turnaround times, and client needs. You'll provide expert technical guidance to workshop technicians and apprentices, assign tasks effectively, and uphold exceptional workmanship standards across the team.

Carry out failure assessments, prepare reports, and complete job documentation, with the potential for involvement in root cause and failure analyses. Play a pivotal role in ensuring the workshop operates safely, is well-organized, and efficient, while guaranteeing that all jobs are finished to a high standard.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a trade qualification in hydraulics, fitting and turning, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field, backed by strong hands-on hydraulic experience. You should have solid knowledge of open and closed-loop hydraulic systems, and be adept at diagnosing faults and supporting technical repairs.

Experience in repairing and evaluating hydraulic pumps, motors, and components across diverse OEM products and applications is important. Formal training from OEMs or manufacturers, especially regarding major hydraulic equipment and component brands, is highly valued. Previous roles as a Workshop Foreman, Leading Hand, or similar supervisory positions are preferred, demonstrating your ability to lead by example.

Strong skills in planning, organization, and communication are essential to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities without letting go of quality or safety standards.
