Overview
Join Cook Shire Council as a Waste Management Operator and contribute directly to maintaining a clean, safe, and sustainable environment for the local community in Cooktown, Queensland. This role involves managing the daily operations at the Cooktown Waste Transfer Station, supporting environmental protection and public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and inspect plant machinery including skid steers and excavators, reporting any maintenance needs promptly.
- Provide excellent service to customers by collecting gate fees, coordinating contractors, and managing site traffic safely.
- Encourage waste separation, recycling, and resource recovery efforts to support sustainability initiatives.
- Handle regulated waste carefully and in compliance with environmental laws.
- Offer relief support at other waste facilities throughout Cook Shire as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and compliance standards across waste management sites.
Requirements
- Valid Class C and Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver's Licence.
- Competency in operating plant machinery such as skid steers and excavators or willingness to acquire it.
- Possession of a Construction White Card.
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- Committed to workplace health and safety standards.
- Experience in waste management is advantageous but not mandatory.

Additional Information
