Role Overview
As a Strategic Finance Manager at Scale Suite, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of growing Australian businesses, providing essential financial forecasts, models, and strategic advice that drive key decisions for founders. Your role focuses on deeply understanding clients' business models, articulating insights through data, and partnering closely with founders to ensure their financial confidence. This position offers growth opportunities, evolving into a Client CFO role as client portfolios mature.
About Scale Suite
Scale Suite aims to deliver a comprehensive finance function tailored for scaling Australian companies. This includes daily financial operations, reporting, analysis, and CFO-level strategy, all integrated within one embedded team. Beyond finance, the company incorporates aligned HR and operational services, enabling clients to access a full finance function without direct hires. Unlike traditional accounting practices, Scale Suite embraces AI integration and forthcoming advanced automations backed by an engineering team. Client projects span from managing SaaS scale-ups' cash flow, establishing US entities for consumer brands, to supporting multi-million-dollar capital raises, reflecting the real and dynamic nature of the workload.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage strategic finance responsibilities for a portfolio of clients varying from founder-led startups establishing their initial finance frameworks to companies undertaking capital raising, deals, or international expansion.
- Delve into each client's financial and business structures, transforming data into clear, monthly reporting aligned with operational realities, and narrate actionable insights for founders.
- Conduct forecasting, cash flow planning, pricing strategies, unit economics analysis, and support critical financial milestones.
- Handle complex projects such as financing term negotiation, budget setting and tracking, building finance functions for new subsidiaries, and supporting sell-side due diligence during private equity transactions.
- Maintain proactive monitoring of portfolio developments and act as the senior financial strategist and executor alongside a skilled analyst team.
Candidate Profile
- Currently working as a senior financial analyst, FP&A specialist, commercial finance expert, business advisory senior/manager, startup finance lead, or corporate finance/deals professional.
- Qualifications such as CA, CPA, CFA are beneficial but not mandatory; diverse backgrounds in practice, corporate, or deals finance are welcomed.
- Strong financial modeling skills, capable of designing detailed three-way forecasts from scratch with robust assumptions.
- Ability to convert complicated or unstructured financial data into accessible monthly reports that founders actively use.
- Expertise in unit economics including margin analysis, payback periods, cash flow conversion, and pricing to understand and influence business operations.
- Clear, business-focused communication style establishing rapid trust with founders beyond numerical data.
- Experience using AI tools routinely for efficient and accelerated financial analysis and decision-making.
- Comfortable with hands-on work and operating independently, valuing substance over office politics.
What This Role Does Not Involve
This role does not include compliance tasks such as BAS lodgement, payroll, or month-end closes, which are managed by the delivery team. It is focused entirely on financial analysis, strategy, and advisory without timesheet tracking or charge-out pressures.
Benefits and Offer
- Above-market compensation, with a willingness to significantly surpass current packages for the ideal candidate.
- Fully remote position, open to candidates anywhere within Australia.
- Direct interaction with Scale Suite’s founder and the leadership of client businesses.
- Opportunity to join a profit-sharing scheme as portfolio responsibilities increase, aimed at long-term partnership rather than temporary engagement.
- Early exposure to meaningful responsibility and autonomy within a flat organizational hierarchy where effective ideas thrive and career growth is substantial and swift.
