Job Overview
This role involves managing the loading, unloading, scanning, and sorting of freight inside the facility, as well as transporting freight between different locations. Candidates will be responsible for operating non-articulated vehicles for shuttle duties while ensuring compliance with safety and security procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate shuttle vehicles within and between facilities safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload freight from company vehicles and containers.
- Audit package size and weight to adhere to regulations.
- Separate packages according to service type and destination following established protocols.
- Utilize computerized scanning equipment to track packages accurately.
- Maintain safety standards when handling parcels and equipment.
- Safeguard company and customer assets including packages, equipment, and vehicles.
- Perform cleaning, washing, and minor maintenance on assigned vehicles as needed.
- Follow regulations from local airport authorities.
- Occasionally perform emergency pickups and deliveries, estimated at up to 10% of working time.
- Comply with vehicle inspection and temperature control unit guidelines when applicable, including troubleshooting during transport.
- Adhere to proper procedures to maintain cargo area temperature and protect freight during deliveries.
- Fulfill any additional duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent educational background.
- Successful completion of both initial and recurrent training programs.
- Valid, unrestricted Class 5 or Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 70 lbs and handle packages up to 150 lbs with equipment or assistance.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of FedEx Express Canada operations and Canadian customs laws is advantageous.
- Residents of Quebec must be bilingual in French and English.
Additional Information
This position is specific to local shuttle drivers at the Surrey, British Columbia station (YAZA). Candidates must meet driving standards including holding a valid driving license, maintaining a clean record with no more than two infractions or accidents in the past 24 months, and successfully passing driving performance evaluations and interviews.
