Role Overview
The Senior/Lead Rigger is responsible for creating, developing, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and implementing rigs across various facets of VFX productions such as characters, vehicles, and environments. This role includes handling coordination and scheduling of project deliverables, managing complex tasks, streamlining workflows, and mentoring junior rigging team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the production team to design animation controls and characteristics suited for different objects and characters.
- Perform testing and debugging of animation controls, making necessary adjustments throughout production.
- Follow directions from leadership and promptly escalate issues when needed.
- Build and design sophisticated rigs for characters, creatures, vehicles, and props within Maya, utilizing in-house tools and pipeline integration.
- Mentor junior rigging staff and guide their development.
- Contribute to the development of rigging tools, rig modules, workflows, and plugins to enhance department efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in art, engineering, or equivalent experience.
- At least five years of rigging expertise related to high-profile VFX or animation projects.
- Deep understanding of human and creature anatomy.
- Extensive experience with creature deformation and puppet rigging techniques.
- Proficient in Python programming.
- Expert knowledge of Autodesk Maya.
- Proven ability to deliver full project milestones under stringent deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail coupled with excellent organizational capabilities.
- Effective team collaborator able to work independently with little oversight.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
