Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer based in Vancouver, BC, to join our Data Engineering team. The successful candidate will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data export solutions, supporting diverse analytics and business needs. Collaboration with multiple stakeholders including product teams and the Data Engineering Manager is essential. The role involves leveraging modern cloud platforms, big data technologies, and industry-standard practices to deliver reliable enterprise data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Create robust, efficient, and scalable data pipelines to manage ingestion and transformation processes.
• Develop and optimize data quality controls to empower analytics and business verticals.
• Work with cross-functional teams on data model design for improved data clarity and usability.
• Design, implement, and maintain mechanisms for exporting data to external systems.
• Participate in documentation, technology evaluations, and proof-of-concept efforts.
• Support production pipelines and swiftly address any operational issues.
• Develop and maintain thorough testing for new features including unit, integration, and functional tests.
• Contribute to the roadmap, code reviews, and establishment of engineering standards.
• Promote a culture of innovation and ongoing learning among the team.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, focused on enterprise-grade systems.
• At least 3 years working with major cloud platforms, especially Azure, but AWS or GCP experience is also valued.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, including knowledge of design patterns and performance optimization.
• Expertise with relational databases, especially Microsoft SQL Server, with strong capabilities in stored procedures, triggers, and tuning.
• Hands-on experience with big data technologies such as Spark or Databricks.
• Familiarity with infrastructure management tools like Terraform or similar.
• Proven ability to construct data pipelines that are both resilient and maintain high data quality.
• Experience setting up data lakes optimized for rapid querying.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly when explaining technical topics to various audiences.
• Background or interest in healthcare data exchange standards (HL7, X12 EDI, FHIR) is beneficial.
• Experience with RESTful API development and dashboard/report creation (e.g. Power BI) are desired assets.
