What began with Great Barrier Reef cruises has expanded into a fleet of three vessels carrying between 72 and 120 guests. For more than 40 years, the company has focused on taking small groups to remote destinations with expert guidance and Australian hospitality. Its itineraries cover both domestic and international locations. Coral is part of the NRMA Group, which also operates NRMA Parks & Resorts, SIXT car rental, an EV charging network, and other marine-related businesses.
Role overview
An immediate opportunity is available for a Second Officer to join the fleet in Perth, Western Australia, with a remote working arrangement tied to vessel operations.
Key duties
- Keep watch on the bridge while the vessel is underway or at anchor.
- Prepare passage plans for each leg of the voyage between ports.
- Support the Master by creating mud maps for relevant areas and ensuring all control sheets are completed.
- Carry out radio checks in line with legal requirements and confirm that bridge equipment is operating to specification.
- Deliver onboarding and induction training for all new crew members joining the vessel.
- Act as the onboard representative for OH&S and lead the monthly safety meeting.
- Work with the Chief Officer to make sure safety and firefighting equipment remains maintained and survey-ready.
- Coordinate closely with the Expedition Leader and Purser to plan daily guest activities and operational needs.
- Help move and manage guest baggage and support other turnaround tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Hold one of the required certificates of competency: Deck Watchkeeper (Unlimited) or Chief Mate.
- Possess an AMSA-endorsed Certificate of Safety Training (CoST).
- Have Proficiency in Survival Craft certification.
- Have completed Crowd Control and Crisis Management training.
- Hold a current International AMSA Medical.
- Maintain a valid First Aid and CPR certificate.
- Passenger ship experience is preferred.
Work pattern and additional terms
The roster requires up to 6 weeks for domestic voyages and up to 8 weeks for international voyages.
