Job description

About the Role

We seek motivated and proactive individuals for the position of Research Contracts Specialist within the Research Office. This role involves negotiating research contracts on behalf of the University and its researchers. Multiple vacancies are open.

The position covers managing a diverse portfolio of research agreements including material transfers, data access, studentships, research collaborations, large consortia, and industry partnerships. Contract terms stem from various funders such as Research Councils, UK Government bodies, the European Commission, charities, foreign entities, and numerous industries.

You will interpret, assess, draft, and negotiate contract terms in complex situations and coordinate multiple stakeholders to conclude agreements efficiently.

Responsibilities

The role requires a pragmatic approach to contracts that fosters productive partnerships between researchers and external collaborators, while carefully evaluating and mitigating risks for the University. Interaction with researchers is essential to tailor agreements to their specific research contexts.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates must work effectively both independently and collaboratively and possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Diplomatic, tactful, detail-oriented, and composed demeanor is crucial. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software is expected.

Work Setting and Conditions

This is a full-time role supporting hybrid working arrangements, balancing onsite collaboration and remote activities. The specialist is required to attend the Cambridge campus at least two days per week. This setup may evolve and does not form part of the formal contractual terms.
