Overview

Position Summary

We are seeking a Research Associate for a temporary full-time role (3 years, subject to change by management) based at the Hennick Humber Health Wilson Site. The incumbent will support research operations under the supervision of the Manager, Research Operations. This position is primarily Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week, with flexible hours as needed. Immediate start date is available and negotiable.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute substantially to designing research studies addressing complex health questions.
  • Offer expertise across diverse research methods including evidence synthesis, clinical trials, policy analyses, and qualitative approaches.
  • Critically review and interpret scientific literature applying specialized knowledge and principles.
  • Assist with the development and evaluation of research proposals for feasibility and academic rigor.
  • Collaborate with Research Chair and co-investigators to conceptualize and refine research projects.
  • Aid in data analysis for ongoing research initiatives.
  • Lead or support grant application submissions to secure research funding.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation for academic publications and present findings at conferences.
  • Develop and facilitate educational workshops on research methodologies.
  • Provide guidance to family medicine residents and offer supervisory support to graduate and summer students and junior staff.

Candidate Profile

  • Completed undergraduate degree in health sciences or a related discipline.
  • Graduate-level education, preferably a PhD in clinical epidemiology, health services, health policy, or closely aligned research fields.
  • Minimum 5 years managing multiple research projects and diverse teams.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and reference management software.
  • Advanced training in research methodology and familiarity with research best practices.
  • Proven experience as first author in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Canadian healthcare system.
  • Collaborative mindset, creative problem-solving skills, integrity in research, leadership, and effective interpersonal communication.
  • Relationship-building skills across stakeholders including participants, investigators, management, physicians, and research staff.
  • Preferred qualifications include expertise in qualitative methods, policy analysis, clinical trials, evidence synthesis, administrative and electronic medical record datasets, or large data analytics.
  • Strong data handling, analytical capabilities, and scientific writing skills.
  • Relevant experience in research involving chronic pain, mental health, and substance use.
