Position Overview

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) invites applications for a Research Assistant position within the Burnett Laboratory, located in Kensington, Sydney. This fixed-term, full-time role spans 12 months with the prospect of extension, offering a base salary of $92,265 plus 17% superannuation and leave loading. About the Burnett Laboratory

The Burnett Laboratory focuses on understanding how the adaptive immune system detects and reacts to foreign and self-antigens, aiming to unravel the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing B-cell and T-cell responses, immune tolerance, and autoimmune disorders. The research holds significant relevance for vaccination, infectious disease, and immune-related health issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate immune responses using both preclinical models and human tissue samples.
• Manage animal colonies in compliance with ethics protocols.
• Perform assays related to adaptive immunity, including multiparameter flow cytometry, ELISA, and cell culture techniques.
• Conduct molecular analyses such as PCR and bulk or single-cell RNA/DNA sequencing.
• Maintain precise laboratory documentation and manage research databases.
• Assist in experimental planning, coordination, and reporting of projects.

Candidate Profile and Skills

• Holds a relevant tertiary qualification in a related discipline with substantive laboratory experience.
• Proven experience in supporting or leading laboratory-based research.
• Strong enthusiasm for adaptive immunity, specifically B-cell and T-cell biology.
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate experimental data recording.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Analytical and methodical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently within defined methodologies and collaborate well within a team.
• Well-honed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Desired Experience

• Background in working with preclinical animal models and human tissue samples.
• Experience managing and utilising mouse colonies in research.
