Job Overview
The role requires selecting and researching news stories, writing content, and presenting live unscripted and scripted reports on TV and radio. The reporter/anchor will develop broadcast stories that engage viewers and maintain the station's high journalistic standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain strong community connections and stay informed on local, state, and national news.
- Work closely with news leadership to choose compelling stories that resonate with the audience.
- Participate in daily briefings with management and peers.
- Edit scripts and prepare for live on-air delivery.
- Prioritize news stories effectively, incorporating late-breaking developments.
- Introduce correspondents and conduct insightful interviews.
- Continuously monitor news through various mediums and professional contacts.
- Create written content for the station’s website and engage audiences via social media.
- Make regular community appearances to promote the station.
- Lead newsroom efforts and contribute positively to team dynamics.
- Adhere strictly to ethical journalism principles.
- Shoot and edit video content as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Speech, or a related field plus at least one year of television news reporting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to think quickly, perform well under pressure, and improvise on live broadcasts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with professional on-air presence and teleprompter reading proficiency.
- Deep understanding of local, national, and global affairs including political, economic, legislative, and cultural issues.
- Comfortable appearing on camera with improvisation skills in live settings.
- Effective interpersonal skills and flexibility to work varied shifts including evenings and weekends.
- Capable of handling strict deadlines and maintaining professional appearance standards.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and a favorable driving record subject to background check.
Additional Information
The role requires passing a pre-employment driving record check, with a non-disqualifying consideration of records older than three years according to company policy.
