Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Psychologist to join a closely connected, community-oriented team focused on advancing learning and fostering social inclusion for children and young people with additional learning needs. This permanent full-time position is based in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, an area known for its great outdoor lifestyle and work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

• Detect and analyze patterns or factors that may affect learning, wellbeing, and behavior.
• Support and improve inclusive practices in early childhood education, schools, and other educational environments.
• Offer expert guidance and assistance to schools, educators, and families, increasing their ability to support learners effectively.
• Conduct comprehensive specialist assessments and collaborate on evidence-based intervention plans.
• Participate actively within a trans-disciplinary team to address complex needs of children.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a master's degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or an equivalent qualification.
• Registered New Zealand Psychologist under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act, with a valid practicing certificate.
• Skilled in translating specialized psychological knowledge into practical, actionable insights.
• Experienced in collaborating and coordinating services within multi-agency and trans-disciplinary contexts.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective engagement with learners, families, and educators across diverse cultural settings.
• Knowledgeable and respectful of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga principles.
• Possesses a full driver’s license, enabling travel as required.
• Committed to upholding Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About Our Team

Te Mahau | Education Services is a frontline division delivering integrated leadership and services to the education sector. Our Learning Support team plays a vital role in supporting children and young people with additional learning needs to maximize their educational potential by collaborating closely with families, educators, and other agencies within English and Māori medium settings.

Additional Information

• Salary range: NZD 85,916 to 126,500 per year, plus KiwiSaver contributions. Appointment salary will reflect the successful candidate’s skills and experience.
• Applicants living in nearby South Waikato or wider Bay of Plenty regions who can commute are encouraged to apply.
