Job description
About the Role
Wood invites applications for an experienced Project Information Manager to support a significant multi-billion-dollar EPC/EPCM brownfield project for a leading UAE national energy company. This full-time role is based in Wood's Abu Dhabi office with occasional site engagements.
The Project Information Manager is responsible for managing the established project information environment, ensuring seamless delivery while identifying and addressing gaps in systems, processes, data quality, and information readiness. This includes overseeing information management across all project phases, including engineering, procurement, materials, construction, commissioning, handover, and project closeout. The role leads Document Control, Data Management, and Engineering Systems teams and acts as the primary interface for project leadership, clients, contractors, suppliers, and delivery teams.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate the current information management framework, identify risks and pending commitments, and implement recovery and enhancement initiatives as needed.
- Maintain and continuously improve the Project Information Management Plan, associated procedures, system strategies, role responsibilities, controls, and delivery timelines.
- Convert contractual and client information specifications into clear deliverables, validation protocols, and acceptance standards.
- Lead Document Control, Data Management, and Engineering Systems efforts across home office, workshare sites, project locations, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Manage governance over engineering documents, structured data, tag registers, drawings, 3D models, supplier data, and engineering databases.
- Oversee SmartPlant Foundation activities including publishing, retrieval, consolidation, correlation, validation, exception handling, and reporting.
- Coordinate engineering database consolidations and merges, resolving conflicts, conducting integrity checks, reconciling data, and managing transitions from project to as-built status.
- Manage information interfaces spanning engineering, electronic document management systems (EDMS), procurement, materials, project controls, advanced work packaging, construction, and commissioning systems.
- Implement effective controls on material information, aligning material take-offs (MTOs), requisitions, purchase orders, supplier details, packing lists, inspections, receipt records, piece marks, material statuses, and construction work packages.
- Support Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) by synchronizing engineering data, documents, models, materials, and schedules with Control Work Areas (CWAs), Control Work Packages (CWPs), Engineering Work Packages (EWPs), and Installation Work Packages (IWPs).
- Lead progressive as-building activities to incorporate redline changes, field modifications, technical queries, surveys, and construction records into controlled drawings, intelligent models, and engineering databases.
- Manage geospatial data from surveys, laser scanning, LiDAR, drone captures, and point-cloud data, including coordinate control, scan-to-model workflows, validation, and integration with models.
- Lead data mining from legacy documents and drawings to extract, classify, and validate information for use within intelligent engineering databases and models.
- Ensure construction teams have access to current, approved, and complete information, including managing revision controls, field changes, and superseded content.
- Coordinate commissioning data management including systems and subsystems data, completion records, turnover packages, punch lists, commissioning datasets, and startup readiness.
- Lead progressive handover and project closeout activities such as final as-built data validation, database delivery, client acceptance, exception handling, archiving, and system decommissioning.
- Establish, monitor, and report project information management Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) addressing quality, completeness, timeliness, supplier compliance, construction readiness, and handover progress.
- Ensure all project information systems, integrations, access controls, data transfers, and third-party connections comply with Wood, client, and project cybersecurity requirements.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, information management, computer science, or a related field.
- Proven extensive experience in Project Information Management on large-scale oil and gas EPC/EPCM projects.
- Record of stabilizing and enhancing information delivery in substantial, ongoing projects.
- Comprehensive understanding of project phases including engineering, procurement, materials, construction, commissioning, handover, and closure.
- Expertise with engineering information systems, electronic document management systems (EDMS), structured engineering data, intelligent models, and digital handover processes.
- Hands-on experience with SmartPlant Foundation publishing and engineering database merging/consolidation.
- In-depth knowledge of material information management, supplier data, advanced work packaging, and commissioning data handling.
- Desirable experience in brownfield as-building, legacy document data extraction, geospatial surveys, laser scanning, or point-cloud data management.
- Strong grasp of cybersecurity principles for project systems, including access controls, system integrations, cloud platforms, and secure data exchange.
- Familiarity with data engineering, data platforms, automated data-quality assurance, document intelligence, and responsible AI applications is advantageous.
- Excellent leadership, client-facing communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Preferred previous work with UAE national energy companies on major projects; equivalent experience in Middle Eastern national oil companies is also considered.
Working Relationships and Authority
The role leads Document Control, Data Management, and System Administration teams within the project management framework. It may involve liaison with client technical and information management teams.
