About the Role
Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is looking for a Project Accountant to join their Corporate/Administrative team in Jackson, MS. This position supports the company’s project managers by overseeing financial aspects of client projects, including cost recognition, billing assistance, effort forecasting, and budgeting across multiple projects. The Project Accountant works closely with project managers to review subcontractors' and vendors' bills, maintain accurate records of project costs, and ensure projects remain within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with Project Managers regarding contract documentation, change orders, approvals, and billing-related modifications
- Prepare and present accurate monthly construction Job Cost Analysis reports
- Participate actively in monthly and quarterly project review meetings
- Develop final invoice packages, including draft and final invoices for billable projects
- Issue final invoices and waivers to customers and follow up for approval and payment
- Identify opportunities to maximize client billing
- Collaborate with Project Managers to optimize monthly billing amounts
- Maintain comprehensive billing folders for all projects containing essential documents such as pay applications, waivers, certified payroll reports, and vendor invoices
- Manage new project setups and transfers of employee billable hours and expenses, as well as closing jobs after reviewing open commitments
- Prepare billing packages complete with supporting documentation
- Recommend and execute process improvements to enhance billing cycles

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related discipline or equivalent practical experience
- Three to five years or more of experience managing accounting functions within medium to large companies
- Familiarity with Deltek Vantage Point software preferred
