Program Coordinator

About the Role

The North Carolina Mock Trial Program is seeking a seasonal Program Coordinator to manage and support its statewide high school mock trial competitions running from mid-August through the end of March. This full-time seasonal position may also be divided between two part-time coordinators if desired. The Coordinator will partner closely with the Executive Director, coaches, students, volunteers, attorneys, and judges to ensure the smooth operation of Regional and State competitions.

Program Overview

Serving nearly 1,000 students annually from over 28 counties, the NCMTP fosters understanding of trial by jury, legal rights, critical thinking, public speaking, and civic engagement. Teams receive case materials and rules, preparing both sides of the competition with guidance from coaches and local attorneys. Regional champions advance to State Finals with a chance to compete nationally. Over 500 attorneys volunteer each year as judges and jurors.

Key Responsibilities

• Organize logistical aspects of competitions, including venue locations, team assignments, supplies, schedules, and materials.
• Oversee team registration processes, waitlists, communications, and maintain accurate records.
• Respond promptly and courteously to inquiries from all participants and volunteers.
• Recruit, coordinate, motivate, and recognize volunteers across multiple sites.
• Assist in planning Regional Competitions, State Finals, and associated events.
• Identify challenges proactively, resolve issues practically, and keep all stakeholders informed.

Candidate Profile

• Excellent collaboration skills, building strong relationships with educators, students, legal professionals, and volunteers.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail, capable of managing multiple tasks such as communication, supply logistics, location assignments, and scheduling.
• Results-oriented mindset with the ability to plan ahead, anticipate obstacles, and ensure follow-through.
• Volunteer-centric approach, understanding volunteers’ time constraints and effectively encouraging participation and appreciation.
• Preferred experience in mock trial or legal environments, though not required.

Typical Daily Tasks

• Addressing queries from coaches via email and phone regarding cases, rules, or competition logistics.
• Monitoring registration and preparing team assignments for twelve regional competition sites.
• Professionally managing waitlist communications.
• Ordering, organizing, and distributing competition supplies across venues.

Employment Details

• Seasonal duration: mid-August through the end of March (approximately 31 weeks).
• Remote position based in North Carolina; preference for candidates near Raleigh, with flexibility for exceptional applicants.
• Expected travel: minimum of two trips annually to Regional and State competitions.
• Compensation: $25 to $30 per hour, dependent on experience.
• Start date: mid-August.
