Job description
Role Overview
As a Pre-Board Screening Officer, your key responsibility will be to ensure the safety of passengers while delivering excellent customer service, thereby contributing to a smooth and secure travel experience.
Key Duties
- Perform thorough and efficient security screening of passengers and their luggage at airport checkpoints.
- Verify passengers' boarding passes for validity.
- Operate X-ray machines, metal detectors, and other technologies to identify prohibited items; utilize physical inspection methods as necessary.
- Secure restricted zones within the airport premises.
- Effectively manage any conflicts that arise during screening processes.
- Maintain clear and professional communication at all times.
- Adhere strictly to all applicable aviation security regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possess at least one year of experience in customer service, especially in high-volume settings.
- Available to work any shift required, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, aligned with airport operational hours.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills; French language skills are an advantage.
- Meet the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) medical criteria.
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent certification (GED).
- Reside currently in Victoria or nearby areas.
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Additional Information
This position is fully based at Victoria International Airport (YYJ), with working hours reflecting the airport’s opening times. Successful applicants must undergo a Transport Security Clearance (TSC), including a comprehensive background investigation. Following clearance, candidates must complete and pass the Screening Officer Foundations (SOF) training to commence active duties.
Compensation and Benefits
After completing paid training at $25.24 per hour, the hourly wage increases to $27.72 post-certification. Comprehensive benefits and a uniform are provided as part of employment.
