Job description

Role Overview

The Department of Corrections invites candidates seeking professional growth to consider the position of Offender Information Specialist I within the Offender Information Services Branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculate incarceration periods to verify inmates have fulfilled mandated sentences, applying credits, determining release dates, parole eligibility, and adjustments for good behavior.
  • Audit and confirm the precision of imposed imprisonment terms.
  • Input and update sentencing and incarceration data into the Kentucky Offender Management System, overseeing statuses of both active and inactive probationers.
  • Act as liaison between correctional institutions and other stakeholders.
  • Provide accurate verbal and written updates concerning prisoner status to authorized officials and the public.
  • Distribute records to administrative personnel, the parole board, and judicial authorities.
  • Compile lists of inmate furloughs, transfers, conditional releases, and paroles.
  • Respond to phone requests from probation and parole offices regarding sentencing and release information required for pre-sentence investigations.
  • Address public requests in compliance with open records legislation.
  • Manage all activities related to inmate admissions and discharges within the Department of Corrections.
  • Coordinate communications involving courts, governmental agencies, institutions, inmates, and the public about official inmate records.
  • Interpret and comply with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures governing inmate records management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • No required experience; however, relevant administrative, legal, paralegal, law enforcement, or offender record-related experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Military service may substitute for educational requirements equivalently.

Work Environment

Work duties are predominantly performed in an office environment.

Additional Information

  • Salary is $38,093.28 annually, with eligibility for overtime pay under Pay Grade 12.
  • Standard work week consists of 40 hours.
  • Position involves an initial and promotional probation period of six months as per Kentucky statute KRS 18A.111.
  • Employment is under the Executive Branch, Department of Corrections located at 275 E Main Street, Frankfort, KY 40601.
