About the Role

Join the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) of Delaware and contribute to enhancing the health and well-being of Delaware residents. DHSS is committed to fostering individual and family independence through a variety of supportive services. This position focuses on evaluating nutritional risks and determining eligibility for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program by conducting initial certifications and recertifications. The Nutritionist will provide nutrition education, assess biochemical indicators like hemoglobin levels, and document participant needs. Collaboration with healthcare professionals including physicians, breastfeeding coordinators, and peer counselors is essential to developing dietary recommendations, addressing restrictions, and advocating for optimal maternal and infant health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with physicians and health personnel to evaluate nutritional needs, dietary restrictions, and menus for individuals.
  • Design, implement, and assess nutritional care plans including regular and modified diets based on nutritional assessments and health plans.
  • Conduct nutritional and dietary evaluations to educate clients and their caregivers.
  • Ensure that food provided meets quality standards and adheres to prescribed diets by overseeing preparation and service.
  • Provide expert guidance to food service staff, healthcare workers, community organizations, and the public on current nutritional concerns, prescribed diets, and food-related services.
  • Coordinate nutritional programs with other health initiatives.
  • Organize and deliver training sessions for food service personnel and healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare relevant reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Food and Nutrition from a US regionally accredited institution.
  • Completion of coursework accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
